First Prize winners at the 2012 Ligita International Guitar Duo Competition, Tom and Laura were the first guitarists to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School, where guitar tuition was made possible through a donation from the Rolling Stones. Forming their duo whilst still at the school, they have since gone on to perform at venues such as Kings Place, the Purcell Rooms, the Cadogan Hall, Guildford International Music Festival, the Sage Gateshead, and Deal Festival, where they collaborated with violinist Hun-Ouk Park. Several of these concerts included world premieres, with pieces from composers including Colin Downs, Laura Snowden and Carlo Domeniconi. They were selected in 2013 for the International Guitar Foundation's Young Artists Platform, and reached the final of the Royal Overseas League Competition that same year. Last month, the duo appeared in a concert for the MAE Foundation, where they had the honour of performing Frederic Hand's Prayer with guitarist John Williams, arranged for three guitars by Richard Harvey.
Tom is currently a Masters student in Graz (Austria) studying with Paolo Pegoraro. Laura is an RCM postgraduate scholar supported by a John Lewis Partnership Award, a Julian Bream Trust Award and a Simon Fletcher Charitable Trust Award. Despite the distance, the pair meet regularly in London and have kept clear of telephone rehearsals after a catastrophic experiment in early 2012.
Tom and Laura are now seeking to expand the collaborative and innovative nature of the duo, starting with a collaboration with animator Heeseon Kim, for a project featuring Stephen Dodgson's Pastourelle and a Live Session for London-based production company Tea Films.
